The temperature has ramped up, and with it there's a flurry of blooming stuff going on in the yard.
What started as one peony bud starting to unfold,
....turned into the whole bush blooming like crazy. Yes, I really need to get some iron on these plants, but it's been busy with the grandkids, and I caught one of their colds that's really been kicking my rear this week.
So, interestingly enough, you know where the nicest iris are? Under the gas tanks, where we threw some extras we dug up because there wasn't room for them in the trash. Look at them just humming along there in total neglect.
This week marks the first rose blooming. This Amethyst variety is always the first one to bloom, but I'm not exactly sure why.
I cut my first bouquet a couple of days later when some of the other varieties decided to put in an appearance. While I don't remember the name of every rose I have in the yard, in case you might be interested...the deep coral one is Dolly Parton and has a wonderfully heavy scent. The yellow one I don't know, but the white one is John F. Kennedy and doesn't have much smell at all. I must have gotten it before I got smart and started buying varieties based on how they smelled, rather than how they looked.
And the pink one...isn't it pretty?....is called Secret. We put it in the year my daughter got married, since everything was all pink, all the time.
I can't tell you how happy it makes me to see these. They are my favorite thing in the yard and one of the only positive things about warmer weather. They'll put on a big show now, then pant along with me during the summer, doling our a bud here and there, and then when the weather cools down in the fall I'll get a secondary big blooming. Fun fact...I don't do red roses in the yard. I just don't care for them. Any other color, I'm ok with, but not red.
And lookie here! I beat the slugs to the first strawberries. Since my nose is majorly plugged up and I can't taste anything, my husband got them for his lunch yesterday.
