First off, happy birthday to my son-in-law, Jake! Hope you have a great day with maybe some sloppy joes mixed in for good measure!
Well, true to an Idaho spring, we had to implement Operation Save the Peaches again this year, when we read that temperatures were going to drop below freezing for a few nights last week.
Evan and I dutifully draped these non-LED lights on the branches,
...and then when it got later in the day my husband and I pulled a tarp over everything.
Sam was actually very interested in the whole process.
We weren't able to pull the tarp as tightly in around the tree this year, because the whole tree is wider. Still we were optimistic that the combination of lights and covering would do the trick, especially since we were further along in the blooming process than we were last year. A lot of the blossoms had already dropped, so we were feeling pretty good about it.
All tucked in for those chilly nights.
Looking at the little weather app, it looked like we were totally in the clear, so my husband and I rolled the tarp off and took off the lights. Then he proceeded to turn on the pasture sprinklers in another area of the yard.
And this is what greeted us the next morning. There was ice encasing the pine tree limbs,
and icicles dripping off the fence. Keep in mind that when I checked my weather app right before I took these pictures, it said the temperature was 40°. I'm not sure what this means for our Save the Peaches effort. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
