It's the end of an era in our family.
With Bryce's impending graduation from BYU, we attended his very last Men's Chorus concert the evening before we went to Washington DC. The concert was amazing, as they always are. Such beautiful music, sung by enthusiastic young men who are just happy to be a part of this great group.
My husband and I were calculating, and we have made the 4 hour trek to BYU for these concerts for 18 years now.
Several of those concerts have included multiple boys.
It's been an extremely positive experience for each and every one of my boys.
They have learned, they have grown, they have served others, and just plain had a lot of fun through their participation.
I will miss the goosebump feeling I get when I listen to them sing, because there is truly nothing like listening to a really good men's group sing. I will miss watching their tiny, Welsh, and incidentally...female, director (this isn't her, this is Bryce's girlfriend) pull every last bit of musical excellence out of them. I will miss the hoopla. I will miss the Tic Tac shakers that were pulled out whenever there was some kind of island-y number.
I will miss the choralography (that's getting 250 sometimes rhythmically challenged young men to sway, clap, stomp, turn and otherwise do something fun while they're singing...all at the same time. And by the way, you may see a very familiar face about 2 and half minutes in).
(Familiar face here at the 39 second mark...) I will miss the music that makes me cry.
I will miss these kinds of opportunities for them.
How grateful I am for the gift of music in my life and in theirs. It's something that truly lasts a lifetime.
I wish I could sing in Men’s chorus again

One of the very best experiences I’ve had the pleasure of participating in.

Men’s Chorus is one of my favorite things about BYU! Hopefully some of the grand boys will carry on the tradition.

So true, Mama. Thanks for putting the music in us. What a joy and a blessing it has been!

I love this post so much! Especially the photos of the three boys...but I’m super glad all five got to do it. I was especially happy when I found out Bryce was “in”!!! What a wonderful era in your family!
