This time of year is amazing for color around my house, and I love it. Just because I know what's coming in a month or so, doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the spring when I can get it. If I could live in a perpetual rotation of spring and fall, with some winter thrown in there, I'd be a really happy gal.
I've been taking pictures around the yard for a couple weeks just to record the comings and goings of some of my favorites. Really, spring just seems so darn short.
I love the regular, garden-variety happy daffodils, but I also have a few different types as well.
These little cuties are only about the size of a quarter.
And for some reason, these remind me of lions.
A lot of these are fading now. It's sad to have them go, but I love that they appear year after year in my yard.
This is an old forsythia in the backyard that hasn't had more than a couple blooms on it for years. For some reason it's happier this spring.
The hyacinths are having a nice season as well.
I love the smell of these and will open my windows to try to coax it inside.
The tulips are going now. They don't last nearly as long as the daffodils, fickle flowers that they are.
And my bleeding hearts are up.
As are the hostas. In a couple weeks those shoots will unfurl into leaves the size of dinner plates. They are really happy in that spot.
My flowering almond is also something I really look forward to seeing. Over the past week it's gone from this...
....to this....
....to this. It's just an explosion of pink blossoms.
We've also been on peach blossom watch. This was last week.
And today it looks like this. Looks like we might get some peaches as long as it doesn't freeze again. I'd like to think we're out of the woods, but in this area you never know. We've had snow in early June a couple times.
And the dang plum tree. I'm still bitter.
In the garden, the rhubarb has started up. Evan and I were in there doing some planting as well. As soon as we get something poking through the dirt, I'll get some pictures. If we have to have hot weather, at least we get some vegetables out of it.
Looks great!
