We're done with the epic travel dissertation and can move on to things happening a little closer to home. At this time of year, especially if there's been a lot of snow in the mountains, my husband feels the need to check on the cabin roof and make sure everything's OK up there. So recently he, Eric and some of Eric's kiddos took a trip up there.
You can see it was a balmy day for traveling.
But gorgeous when they arrived up there. The kids frolicked a little before heading in.
You can see there's a pile of snow on the roof....my husband says somewhere right around 4 feet. The goal is to get the fires going inside and warm it up enough that it slides off, because right now the weight of all that snow transfers to the big beams holding up the cabin. And right now, you can't open the kitchen cupboards very far because of that weight. When it slides off the roof, it feels and sounds like an earthquake or an avalanche, which I guess it kind of is, and it would be really dangerous for anyone to be standing under that edge of the roof when it comes off.
There was another storm heading in the next day to drop new snow, so this was a quick trip.
Unfortunately, they weren't successful getting it to slide that trip, but the hope is that there was enough residual heat and slightly warmer temperatures since then to have made it happen.
Living in South Central Texas it would never occur to me that a roof needed to be relieved of snow!

Yeah, felt like an earthquake. Thought we were all dying for like 2 seconds.
