I make bread. Have since I got married 35 years ago. It's just a habit I got into when we were starving students that I never could, and really didn't want to get rid of. When my kids were little, they used to beg for an occasional loaf of what they called "squishy bread." Translation: Wonder Bread.
For lots of years I mixed the dough up and kneaded it by hand...back in the day before we had a big mixer of any kind. There's nothing quite as therapeutic as kneading a multi-loaf recipe of bread on the kitchen table for 10 minutes or so...feeling the texture change under your hands as it gets more and more smooth. I eventually learned that I had to do my bread baking while the kids were gone at school and my husband was gone at work, so I wouldn't lose a loaf out of a batch as soon as it came out of the oven.
Waxing nostalgic isn't the real reason for this post, though. Mostly it's just to nanny-boo my boys, because as they grew up, so did their taste buds, and they developed an appreciation for fresh-baked homemade bread....hot out of the oven....butter and honey melting all over a fresh slice. Can't you almost taste it, guys? Wow, I sure can....
I grew up with homemade bread too - Mom would usually form the dough into buns instead of loaves. There is absolutely nothing like warm homemade bread. Nothing.

One of my specialties is homemade bread. Thanks to work, though, it is relegated to holidays and those times when Katy is home and everyone begs me to bake some. The only reason I don't make it more often is because I cannot resist it. I will eat the whole pan of rolls.
