Fresh peaches are something that are really looked forward to in this house. My entire family will eat cut up fresh peaches and make appropriate appreciative noises while they do. We like them in or on homemade ice cream, in shakes, and in cobbler or pie.
We have 3 peach pie recipes that we eat at our house and we like them all for different reasons. But if we knew we'd never get another peach pie ever in our lives, this is the one we'd make. It is my mother's recipe. My mom is an awesome cook and she tried her best to teach me the basics. I'm going to share this family heirloom recipe with you, hoping you'll give it a try on one of these early fall days. It's yummy. :)
Mom's Peach Pie
An unbaked 9-10" pie crust
4-5 peaches, peeled & sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Topping:
1/2 cup cold butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup flour
In a mixing bowl, combine peaches, sugar, flour and nutmeg. Pour inot unbaked pie shell. Mix together topping ingredients until crumbly. Sprinkle over peaches. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 375 degrees and bake 30 minutes longer, until peaches are tender. You may need to lay a piece of aluminum foil on top of the pie later in the baking to prevent it from getting too brown. It is awesome served warm with vanilla ice cream.
I love peaches!! That sounds wonderful, i will have to try it!!
