As with most of you, I imagine, we have Valentine traditions at our house. We have heart-shaped pizza for dinner, and we doorbell ditch sugar cookies for the kids. This is a long-standing tradition that began with DH's grandfather, who used to ditch chocolate hearts with the grandkids' names on them. He lived right across the street from my DH growing up and he has really tender memories of the time spent with his grandparents.
So, Valentine's Day requires sugar cookies. And not just sugar cookies, but sugar cookies with pink frosting, just like the ones shown in the blog banner above. So imagine my dismay, when in the middle of a horrendously busy day, I discovered that there was no red food coloring in the house. Duhn-duhn-DUHN. There was no way I had time to go get some and I was about ready to literally throw myself on the floor in a tantrum. My thought process was as follows.
"Geez, now I really wish I'd taken the easy way out and just done red sugar on them before they baked."
"Red sprinkles.....hmmmmm."
"White frosting......red sprinkles......yessssssss."
And my day was saved. But I will tell you that both the kids who got these sugar cookies first comment was, "What's with the red sprinkles?"

Are you going to bring me some?
